The New Forest Community Orchestra has been in existence since 2002. We are amateur musicians from a wide variety of backgrounds and span a variety of ages! We aim for a high standard; there is no entrance audition but would suggest Grade 5 standard as a minimum. We are currently especially aiming to recruit string, oboe and brass players.

Woodwinds

We rehearse at 7.30pm on Wednesday evenings at Hordle Parish Church Memorial Hall, Hordle Lane, Hordle, Lymington SO41 0FB. We stage two to three concerts a year in the New Forest area.

Lee Marchant - Conductor

Lee was born and educated in Bournemouth and started learning the Double Bass at the age of 8 with Barry Glynn who inspired him to become a player and conductor. Lee then went on to study double bass at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with Mary Condliffe and later conducting with Andrew Wilson-Dixon. He has freelanced as a bass player for the last 11 years, playing with many orchestras and ensembles across the country. He is also now in great demand as a conductor performing in many major venues at home and abroad. Recent performances include Beethoven's 9th Symphony with a choir of 150. He has also worked in musical theatre for the last 10 years working with many local musical theatre companies as musical director including Theatre 2000, Bournemouth Operatic Society and Milton Musical Society. In 2010 Lee was nominated for best musical director by the southern curtain call awards. He is currently principal conductor of The Westbourne Orchestra, New Forest Community Orchestra and Bournemouth Youth Orchestra, as well as guest conductor of Ealing Youth Orchestra, Dorset Youth Orchestra and the National Scout and Guide Symphony Orchestra. Lee is also a dedicated teacher for the Dorset music service delivering lessons and workshops across the county.

Orchestra

All Saints' Church, Milford-on-Sea

28th April 2012 at 7.30pm

Tickets : £8 (Children & Students : £5)

Overture to Barber of Seville (Rossini)
Soirees Musciales (Rossini arr. Britten)
Symphony No. 2 (Borodin)

We play Rossini's famous "Barber of Seville Overture"
followed by his "Soirees Musicales".
These charming and tuneful miniatures were orchestrated by the young Benjamin Britten in 1936 and gave a foretaste of what a master of orchestration he was to become.
We conclude with Borodin's Symphony No 2 in B Minor, generally reckoned to be his masterpiece.
